Ala Moana High-Rise – Electrical Submetering Upgrade Project

We partnered with an Ala Moana High-Rise in Honolulu, Hawaii to upgrade its existing electrical metering system with a flexible, cost-effective electrical submetering solution. The project modernized individual-unit energy monitoring while maintaining compatibility with the property’s existing and discontinued meter system.

The upgraded system features dedicated single-point electrical submeters installed adjacent to the main breakers in each unit’s electrical room. The meters use wireless radio-frequency (RF) technology to transmit utility data to a centralized cloud database and meter management system, providing reliable individual-unit energy monitoring and utility data management.

A key benefit is the system’s phased meter replacement capability. Property management can replace individual meters as they fail or reach the end of their service life, rather than replacing the entire system at once. This cost-effective submetering strategy helps protect property cash flow, reduce large upfront capital expenses, and allow management to continue maintaining the property while allocating funds toward larger capital improvement projects.

Meters can also be replaced on an individual-unit or full-floor basis, providing flexibility for future maintenance and electrical submetering upgrades while minimizing disruption to residents.

This project demonstrates our expertise in Honolulu electrical submetering, RF meter systems, cloud-based utility data management, individual-unit energy monitoring, phased meter replacement, and cost-effective submetering solutions for high-rise and condominium properties throughout Hawaii.

The result is a modern, flexible electrical submetering system that provides reliable utility data, supports long-term maintenance, and gives property management a practical path to modernize its metering infrastructure while protecting cash flow and managing capital expenses.
