Moiliili Condo – Legacy Intelimeter Submetering Replacement Project
We partnered with a Moiliili Condo in Honolulu, Hawaii to replace an outdated Intellimeter electrical submetering system that had become increasingly unreliable and difficult to maintain. The property’s existing system relied on legacy powerline communication (PLC) technology that had been discontinued, making the aging infrastructure unsuitable for the property’s evolving electrical environment.
The legacy Intellimeter system communicated through the property’s electrical power lines. Over time, variable-speed communication equipment and motor upgrades throughout the property affected the reliability of the existing communication system, creating challenges with consistent meter data collection. With the technology discontinued and replacement components increasingly difficult to support, the property required a more modern and dependable submetering solution.
Our team upgraded the property’s electrical submetering infrastructure to modern radio-frequency (RF) communication technology, replacing the dependence on outdated powerline communication. The new meters communicate wirelessly with a centralized data collection system, providing a more reliable method for collecting individual unit electricity usage.
The project also utilized the property’s existing in-wall meter enclosures, allowing the new metering equipment to be installed efficiently without requiring extensive modifications to the building. Customized flush-mount faceplates provided a clean installation, while integrated LCD displays allow convenient access to real-time meter readings.
The upgrade provides the property with a more reliable foundation for individual unit energy monitoring, remote meter reading, and utility data management, while eliminating its dependence on the discontinued Intellimeter PLC technology.
